Tenda TEG1008 8 port Gigabit Switch Issues

Posted on July 18, 2018November 17, 2021 by ElectroStingz

I purchased this network switch quite some time ago, maybe 7 years and since then it has been used constantly as part of my network setup. Recently my network connection (NIC) kept disconnecting momentarily at random intervals which lead me to perform a series of tests to find out why. The strange part being only my computer kept disconnecting out of the others in my network. Tried the obvious things first such as the network cable, network port and NIC driver for the Intel 219V on my MSI Z170A Krait Gaming motherboard. Nothing worked so I started to focus my attention on the Tenda switch which was also running very hot. I swapped it out for a spare TP-Link 8 port switch which resolved my disconnecting issues, furthermore web browsing seemed a lot quicker.

Looking at the Tenda switch it appears to have cooked a little bit, the rear side of the processor is slightly brown and there is a defective capacitor near the power input socket. The TP-link replacement switch will do for now but later I will upgrade it to something higher end.
